Postecoglou has enjoyed great success since taking charge and Spurs remain unbeaten in the Premier League, with a win for Spurs taking top spot for at least 24 hours as Manchester City and Arsenal do not play each other until Sunday. He spoke of his youthful enthusiasm for Liverpool and drew an analogy with his own viewing of The American sitcom Happy Days and a wall poster of The Fonz, the theme song played by a journalist during a media interview, but Postecoglou was not one to sing along.

When asked by reporters about the possibility of going top of the table, he said: “Listen, if we win we go to the top of the table for 24 hours, but who cares? We have to win, it will be a difficult game tomorrow and our focus will be to give our best performance and play our best. If we don’t do that then it doesn’t matter where we are on the competitive ladder, we will just deliver poor performances.”
