The Global Super League (GSL) wrapped up in Guyana on July 18, 2025, with Rangpur Riders once again crowned champions, securing back-to-back titles in a high-stakes finale. The Bangladesh-based franchise proved their supremacy in the 11-match tournament, held exclusively at Providence Stadium, by holding their nerve through the round-robin phase and delivering a clinical performance in the final to retain their crown.
Entering the competition as defending champions, Rangpur Riders were considered strong contenders, and they lived up to expectations right from their opening clash. A narrow but spirited win over host franchise Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 10 set the tone for a composed title defence. Despite heavy competition from franchises across the Caribbean, Asia, and beyond, the Riders maintained momentum throughout the tightly scheduled tournament.
Rangpur’s success was built around a core group of experienced international and domestic performers. Skipper Nurul Hasan led with tactical sharpness, while opener Soumya Sarkar continued his fine run in the GSL with key contributions in both group games and the final. Sarkar’s role was especially pivotal, having also been the top run-scorer in the inaugural edition in 2024. This time, he once again anchored the top order, setting the platform for successful chases and defendable totals.
Alongside Sarkar, new recruits like Kyle Mayers, Ibrahim Zadran, and Pakistani batter Khawaja Nafay added explosive power and depth. The bowling department, led by Kamrul Islam Rabbi and supported by Tabraiz Shamsi and Fazalhaq Farooqi, was precise and relentless throughout the tournament. Rangpur’s ability to strike early with the ball and build pressure in the middle overs was instrumental in their dominance.
The GSL final, played on July 18, saw Rangpur control proceedings from the outset. Whether with bat or ball, they showed experience under pressure, a trait that had been forged in their dramatic 2024 title run, where they had to win three straight games after starting 0–3. This year, their path was steadier but no less impressive. The Riders took calculated risks, rotated their bowlers smartly, and made key tactical adjustments tailored to each opposition.
Beyond Rangpur’s triumph, the 2025 GSL edition once again demonstrated the tournament’s growing significance on the global T20 calendar. With its centralized hosting in Guyana, the league served as a convergence point for players from multiple continents, creating a unique competitive environment outside the traditional powerhouses. It also showcased a blend of raw talent and established stars, highlighting the depth of the T20 circuit.
The GSL’s successful second season solidifies its reputation as a serious fixture in franchise cricket. For Rangpur Riders, their victory is not just a title defence—it’s a statement of intent. With two trophies in two years, they have set the benchmark in consistency and squad balance, making them the team to beat in future editions.
As cricket fans turn their attention to the next chapter of international T20 leagues, Rangpur’s latest triumph in Guyana will be remembered as a celebration of strategy, skill, and the spirit of a team that has mastered the art of tournament play.
