RCB and SRH skippers incur over-rate fines after yesterday’s match that saw the Sunrisers emerge victorious.
RCB and SRH skippers Rajat Patidar and Pat Cummins have been fined respectively for slow over-rates.
According to the IPL’s code of conduct for over-rate infractions, Patidar was fined INR 24 lakh because it was RCB’s second offence of the season (the first occurred on April 7). Each of the remaining players in the starting lineup received a fine of either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever was less.
Since it was SRH’s first infraction of the season, Cummins received a fine of INR 12 lakh.
Even though Jitesh Sharma was the stand-in captain for the game because Patidar came returned from injury and just played as a batter, Patidar, as the chosen team leader, had to take the blame for RCB’s slow over-rate.
This is comparable to how, despite Riyan Parag serving as the team’s stand-in captain during their first infringement, Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson was fined INR 24 lakh for committing a second offence.
While Patidar or any IPL team captain will not be suspended, as was the case until IPL 2024, a third and subsequent slow over-rate infraction in any upcoming game would result in a larger fine. Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), missed his team’s season start since his ban from the previous season carried over, however the regulation was changed in advance of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
