Red Devils seek momentum against Brentford, says Amorim as they eye successive league wins under head coach.
Ruben Amorim targets Manchester United momentum in Brentford test.
By defeating Brentford on Saturday, Ruben Amorim made it apparent “everywhere” at Manchester United that the team must win the Premier League back-to-back for the first time in his 32 games there.
The Red Devils have the opportunity to eventually record two league victories under the Portuguese coach after defeating Chelsea 2-1 last weekend when they visit the Gtech Community Stadium for Saturday’s early kickoff. This has been a recurring theme at the club over the past week, Amorim said.
“It was everywhere [I said this],” he said. “I think if we as a team don’t understand the momentum now [we need], we have a big problem.
“Anything could happen in a game, especially in the Premier League, and you can see it in every game. But the feeling in the first minutes [of a match] – it’s really important. So for me since we started the first training [this week], we start talking about that. We need to understand the opportunity we have to win the next game [and build momentum]. The responsibility is on us. We need the sense of urgency that we need to win, no matter what. It’s going to be really difficult.”
Amorim has previously stated that last season he did not know how his team would play. While he remains somewhat unsure, there is much more confidence in his players now. “I always have the feeling that we can win the next game and we can be dominant,” he said. “[But] sometimes in the small things [I am unsure] – in our urgency [for example]. If you compare the way we start against Chelsea compared to the way we start against Manchester City [it] is completely different.
“I am not certain all the time what is going to happen and I am really clear on that with you and with the players, but the feeling is completely different. I look at my team [when] I am going to play against City, Arsenal, and I am feeling we can score goals, we can be dominant, we can control the game in certain moments. So it is feeling completely different from last year.”
