Rehan Ahmed and Adil Rashid issued visas to travel to India for T20 World Cup.
Rehan Ahmed and Adil Rashid of England have been granted visas to fly to India for the T20 World Cup, and the ICC is optimistic that all players, officials, and support personnel who are Pakistani nationals or of Pakistani descent will receive Indian visas on time. Late last week, it was revealed that Rashid and Rehan, who have ties to Pakistan, had been awaiting clearances while their teammates in the England side had obtained them.
In recent years, a number of Pakistani players from Australia and England have encountered difficulties obtaining visas to visit India. The problem was brought to light once more last week when Ali Khan of the United States posted on Instagram that he had been refused an Indian visa.
The historically tense political and diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan are currently at their lowest point, and it has been particularly challenging for Pakistani nationals or people of Pakistani descent to get Indian visas in recent years.
The teams of Canada, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, England, Italy, Bangladesh (where former Pakistani legspinner Mushtaq Ahmed is a member of the coaching staff), and the United States have submitted 42 such applications. Players and officials from the Netherlands and Canada are reportedly already in possession of visas, and visa appointments for squad members from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Italy, Bangladesh, and Canada are scheduled for early next week.
