Zimbabwe’s new Test and ODI captain is left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava.
According to a media release from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), Ngarava, 27, replaces Craig Ervine, who resigned from the position. Ngarava’s deputy was revealed to be all-rounder Brian Bennett. Zimbabwe’s captain in Twenty20 Internationals will be veteran Sikandar Raza.
Following the Zimbabwe board’s fourth quarter meeting in Harare, the new appointments were made. ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani stated, “Ngarava has shown remarkable growth as a player and leader over the years.” “He has continuously performed well for Zimbabwe in all formats and is respected in the locker room. We think he’s prepared to guide the group into its next phase.
“Craig Ervine led with professionalism, resilience and dignity during a challenging period. ZC is deeply grateful for his contribution to the team’s stability and progress.”
Since making his debut in 2017, Ngarava has represented Zimbabwe in 145 white-ball international matches and 11 Test matches. With 108 wickets at an economy rate of 7.30 in 90 games, he is Zimbabwe’s top wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals. Having played in the Bangladesh Premier League, Lanka Premier League, and ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates, he also has franchise T20 experience.
Bennett, who is 22 years old, is renowned for his attacking prowess at the top and has scored hundreds for Zimbabwe in all formats.
