Roach and Da Silva dropped for WI test squad vs Australia as Hope and Campbell were recalled for the series.
No Roach and Da Silva, but Hope and Campbell return for WI home Tests against Australia.
Kemar Roach was left out of the West Indies’ team for the forthcoming home Test series against Australia, despite the fact that the hosts have bolstered their batting with the return of Shai Hope and John Campbell. Brandon King and Kevlon Anderson have also received their first call-ups, and Johann Layne is a fresh addition to the fast-bowling attack. Anderson Phillip is still employed.
The next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for both sides will begin with the third and final Test of the series in Jamaica, which will also be a day-night test. This will be the second day-night Test at Sabina Park and the third in the West Indies.
In Pakistan, where he participated in the final Test match for the West Indies, Roach took two wickets in a victory of 120 runs that tied the series. In that Multan match, fast bowlers took just four wickets. Before that, Roach had taken nine wickets in two games during the Test series in Bangladesh, showing some promise. Since then, he has represented Barbados in the top-tier West Indies Championship and, more recently, Surrey in the County Championship.
“Despite being under consideration, veteran pacer Kemar Roach has not been included and has been duly informed,” Cricket West Indies (CWI) said about the 36-year-old in a press statement.
After taking 63 first-class wickets in 17 games, Layne, a 21-year-old Barbados fast bowling all-rounder, was added to the 16-man roster. Phillip of Trinidad & Tobago was in the squad in Pakistan and has taken five wickets in the current unofficial Test match between West Indies A and South Africa A in Gros Islet. Phillip’s last Test match came in December 2022, the last of his two appearances.
Captain Roston Chase and vice-captain Jomel Warrican are the team’s top spinners, while the key quicks are Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph.
