Rocchiccioli joins Warwickshire for a four-game county stint over the span of the next six weeks in the season.
The offspinner from Western Australia, Corey Rocchiccioli, has agreed to a short-term contract to play in the County Championship for Warwickshire. Rocchiccioli stated that he “jumped at the chance” to play abroad during the Australian winter and will be available for four Championship games over the next six weeks.
Over the past two years, Rocchiccioli, 27, has flourished in red-ball cricket. Since the 2023–24 season began, he has taken 84 wickets at a rate of 27.65 in the Sheffield Shield, second only to Nathan McAndrew of South Australia. For this year’s Championship rounds, which will feature the Kookaburra ball instead of the Dukes, he joins Warwickshire.
“We are very excited about welcoming Corey into our squad through June and July,” Ian Westwood, Warwickshire’s head coach, said. “He is a proven performer in Sheffield Shield cricket, and with his experience of the Kookaburra ball, we know he will make an impact for us.”
Rocchiccioli said: “I’m really excited to play at a prestigious club like Warwickshire. I jumped at the chance to play when Westy and Davo [captain Alex Davies] rang me. I’m really excited to learn and grow in English conditions and hopefully contribute to some strong wins along the way.”
By selecting Rocchiccioli for the Australia A teams’ matches against India A and the England Lions last summer, Australia’s selectors demonstrated their interest in the player. Along with Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann, he is one of several possible replacements to Nathan Lyon, who has reached an agreement with Gloucestershire for the same block of Championship games.
Tim Robinson, a New Zealand batsman and wicketkeeper, was also signed by Northamptonshire on a temporary basis. Following Matthew Breetzke’s selection for South Africa’s Test squad to play Zimbabwe, Robinson, 23, will be eligible for two Championship games and four Blast matches.
