Alleyne and Patil seal thriller to help Royals complete WCPL three-peat.
With 27 needed off of 16 balls, the Barbados Royals appeared to be in trouble. Shreyanka Patil, who was batting for the first time in the 2025 WCPL, went in to face the hat-trick ball with just three wickets remaining. To relieve the pressure, she hit the first two balls she encountered in reverse. The next over went for 15 after that, with Aaliyah Alleyne hitting a four and a six. The Royals were soon celebrating after winning the WCPL three times in a row and defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the championship match following a thrilling comeback victory.
Amazon Warriors’ Ashmini Munisar couldn’t hold back her tears as the Royals took in everything, including their teammates hurrying to try to help Alleyne, who was lying on her back after hitting the game-winning run, stand up. She took 3 for 21 in her four overs, including a maiden, and was involved in four of the seven Royals dismissals.
With a wicket-maiden in the 14th over of the chase, 21-year-old Munisar completely changed the course of the match. The Royals now need 56 off 36 balls after she removed Kycia Knight for 31 off 37 balls. She dismissed Courtney Webb, who was dominating the chase with her 27-ball 31 in her final over, the 18th of the chase. Munisar took her eighth and joint-highest wicket of the competition when she got Afy Fletcher stumped with her next ball.
In the absence of Hayley Matthews, she had earlier made a spectacular catch at backward square-leg to dismiss the threatening Chinelle Henry, the captain of the Royals. However, Patil and Alleyne etched their names on the trophy once more by scoring the final 27 runs in just 14 balls.
