Ruben Selles to leave Hull after just six months into a two-and-a-half year contract after joining in January.
Ruben Selles is set to depart after six months in charge.
In December, the Spaniard signed a two-and-a-half-year contract to succeed Tim Walter at League One Reading.
With a draw against Portsmouth on the last day of the season, they finally averted relegation to League One after an uneven season.
But precisely one year after firing Liam Rosenior after the team placed seventh in the Championship, chairman Acun Ilicali has decided to make another managerial move.
When Selles left for East Yorkshire on December 6, he had led Reading to sixth place in League One in spite of their off-field issues.
After nine games without a victory, predecessor Walter had been dismissed of his responsibilities the week before.
They had the worst home record in the division at the end of the season, despite their impressive away performances under Selles, which included victories against Sunderland and Sheffield United, who were vying for promotion.
They entered the season’s last game in the Championship relegation zone after suffering defeats at the MKM Stadium at the hands of fellow struggling teams Luton and Derby.
They were pegged back at Fratton Park after Matt Crooks had put them ahead, but a draw was sufficient to keep them up on goal differential. Other games meant that a victory would ensure their survival.
After the match Selles told BBC Radio Humberside: “Everyone in the club managed difficult moments and it has been a tough season for everyone and we deserved to stay in the division.
“We had a team that was rock bottom and to achieve the target this season with all the injuries and everything else is just massive.
“Now it’s over and we crossed the line, we can rest a little bit and I told the players that we will remember this day for years to come.”
