SA skipper Bavuma ruled out of first Bangladesh test due to a tricep injury. He will travel with the squad.
SA skipper Bavuma will miss the first test against Bangladesh. ACSA statement said that Bavuma will “travel with the squad to Dhaka on Tuesday and continue his recovery under the supervision of the Proteas medical team in preparation for the second Test”.
With Nandre Burger earlier ruled out of the series because of a lumbar stress reaction, Dewald Brevis and Lungi Ngidi have been added to the squad.
Bavuma was ruled out of the third and final One-Day International (ODI) against Ireland on October 6 due to an apparent elbow injury. He didn’t field in the second ODI on October 4 due to an injury that forced him to retire. In Bavuma’s absence, Rassie van der Dussen led South Africa, with Markram resting for that particular series.
Brevis has been called up “as cover” for Bavuma, according to CSA. He has only played two Twenty20 internationals and no Test matches. However, he has participated in twelve first-class matches, the most recent of which was for South Africa A against Sri Lanka A at Benoni, when he scored 49 and 74 in a five-wicket defeat.
With two-fors in the first two games of the three ODIs he played against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, Ngidi completes the fast-bowling group that also includes all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, batsman Kagiso Rabada, and Dane Paterson.
