SACA and CA express concerns over player safety.
Cricket Australia and the South African Cricketers’ Association have voiced worries over the safety of their players participating in the IPL 2025 following the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan and the subsequent suspension of the league. The BCCI decided to immediately halt the competition for a week after the PBKS vs. DC match had to be called off midway through the first innings on Thursday.
Foreign players have also been worried about the circumstances, and the BCCI’s logistical worries have been getting everyone involved in that match out of Dharamsala safely.
“The health and safety of players is not negotiable. We are in direct contact with all the South African players at the IPL and keeping them updated with security reports. We have offered them any support they need,” Andrew Breetzke, the chief executive of the South African Cricketers’ Association, said.
In a statement on Friday, Cricket Australia echoed those thoughts, saying: “We continue to closely monitor the situation in Pakistan and India, including obtaining regular advice and updates from the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI and local government authorities, and maintaining communication with our players and support staff currently in the region.”
Cricket West Indies also released a statement a few hours before to the aforementioned escalations, indicating that it was in contact with the PCB and BCCI to assess the situation.
