Sachin Tendulkar shuts down rumours of being new BCCI President ahead of the BCCI elections on September 28.
Sachin Tendulkar has flatly rejected that he is a candidate for the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) presidency. The cricket icon was rumoured to be the future president of the board, but his team has issued a statement clearly refuting the claims amid rampant speculation.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),” the official statement read. “We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place.”
“We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” the statement further said. The statement was issued by SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd.
On September 28, the BCCI will hold elections for the positions of treasurer, secretary, joint secretary, president, and vice-president. The board as a whole believes that treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhati, joint secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai, and existing secretary Devajit Saikia would continue in their roles.
The roles of chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and president and vice-president are the main points of contention. The vice president at the moment, Rajeev Shukla, might stay involved in the BCCI structure in some way.
State associations must submit the names of their representatives for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) by today at the latest. The list can give a clue as to who is interested in the big, big positions.
