Seattle Orcas look to start fresh in this MLC season following a basement finish that saw them drift to rock bottom.
The Seattle Orcas have called for a whole squad revamp following their dismal season-ending performance. In an attempt to turn the tide with the personnel shift, the Orcas let go of 11 players, including seven foreigners. The refusal to retain captain Wayne Parnell and players like Quinton de Kock, who has shown no interest in his performance since retiring from international competition, are the main highlights of the Orcas’ belief.
The Orcas’ miserable record, which saw them manage just one victory all season, was mostly caused by their struggling batting team. Heinrich Klaasen, their most potent weapon, had an incredibly forgettable run, managing just 97 runs in six innings. His incredible 2023 season, in which he led the Orcas to the championship game, stood in sharp contrast to this.
After serving as Imad Wasim’s productive apprentice for the previous two seasons, left arm spinner Harmeet Singh enhanced his reputation by taking eight wickets in five innings at an economy rate of 7.7. He is now expected to take the lead in the spin attack.
The 38-year-old David Warner is anticipated to take de Kock’s and Ryan Rickelton’s place at the top of the order. Shimron Hetmyer and Kyle Mayers, two more southpaws, will join Warner as the Orcas try to add some West Indian firepower to their hitting lineup.
This season, Sikandar Raza is scheduled to make his MLC debut. Raza, 39, hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down after his PSL final exploits. The Zimbabwean veteran, who is scheduled to make his first MLC participation, is expected to be the team’s mainstay and can alter games with his explosive lower-order hitting and unconventional off-spin.
