South Africa have recalled Senuran Muthusamy for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in October.
The all-rounder, who bowls left-arm orthodox, joins a spin trio alongside Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt.
Muthusamy has played three Tests, with his last appearance in March 2023. In first-class cricket, he has taken 247 wickets and scored nearly 5,000 runs at an average of 30.41.
Kagiso Rabada will lead the pace attack, supported by Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder. Notably, Lungi Ngidi and Migael Pretorius, who were part of the squad for the West Indies series in July-August, were not selected for this tour.
South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad highlighted the squad’s versatility and depth, particularly emphasizing the importance of the spin unit for the conditions in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh is a tough place to tour. They’ve become a formidable side at home, and we need to be ready for the challenge,” said Conrad. “We’ve picked three frontline spinners, all capable of stepping up. This is a great opportunity for someone like Senuran, who can contribute with both bat and ball.”
The tour kicks off on October 21 in Dhaka, with the second Test in Chattogram starting on November 2.
