With a record-breaking victory over Assam in just 90 overs, Services set a new mark for the quickest Ranji Trophy match ever.
The match broke the previous record of 547 balls bowled to get a result from the 1961–62 match between Delhi and Railways, setting a new record of 540 balls bowled. 32 wickets were lost and only 359 runs were scored.
In addition, two bowlers from the Services, left-arm seamer Mohit Jangra and left-arm spinner Arjun Sharma, achieved a historic first in the 91-year history of the Ranji Trophy by claiming hat-tricks in the same innings.
After opting to bat, Assam was dismissed for 103 in 17.2 overs, with Pradyun Saikia batting the highest with 52.
Services only managed 108 in 29.2 overs in response, with Rahul Singh scoring 4 for 44 and Riyan Parag taking a career-best 5 for 25.
In the second innings, Assam fell to 75 all out in 29.3 overs, aided by strong performances from Arjun (4 for 20) and Amit Shukla, who took 6-2-6-3.
The game ended in just four sessions as Services, chasing a target of 71, crossed the finish line in just 13.5 overs for the cost of two wickets. Even though the first Ranji match between Madras and Mysore only lasted three sessions in 1934, more balls were bowled in that contest.
Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground in Tinsukia, the site of the Assam-Services match, had not played host to a Ranji Trophy match since January 2001, when Orissa defeated the hosts by nine wickets.
With 13 points from two victories in as many games, Services leads Elite Group C, while Assam is in fifth place with one point from two games.
