Sesko and his slow start does not faze Amorim as manager says the striker ‘works so hard and wants to succeed’.
‘He’s going to struggle’: Amorim relaxed despite Sesko and lack of United form.
Benjamin Sesko is having trouble at Manchester United, according to Ruben Amorim, who wants the striker to learn to take criticism so that it becomes a “normal Monday.”
Since joining United in August for £73.7 million from RB Leipzig, Sesko has only scored twice in 11 games. The 22-year-old is undoubtedly under pressure as a result, and Amorim has revealed that although he is at ease with the circumstances, the player is not.
“I understand how things are in football, and he’s going to struggle,” said the head coach. “He has no experience here, and when everyone says that you are the next big thing, you hear that. If you don’t perform every week, you are going to hear from club legends, from pundits, the media, and sometimes they are right.
“The ability to understand that this is normal and maintain your confidence is really hard for a kid, and especially for a kid that wants to control everything. He is not going to control everything.”
Gary Neville claimed that Sesko was “miles off it”. Amorim was asked if these type of comments affect players. “Nobody likes to hear [that],” he said. “[Sesko has] struggled a little bit so let’s embrace that.
“It’s not personal – that’s what I try to explain to the players. It’s an opinion that [could] change in a few weeks. What is true today, in three weeks could be different. My advice to Ben is you are going to get used to [hearing such opinions] and then it’s going to be natural – be like your Monday here. So we are going to help and protect Ben because he works so hard and wants to succeed.”
