Shamar ruled out again as injuries continue to pile on for pacer as he misses the Bangladesh ODIs this time.
After missing the Test tour of India, West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph was expected to make his comeback to international cricket this weekend. However, he has been sidelined by “some discomfort in his shoulder.” The 26-year-old has now missed the three-match series against Bangladesh as well. He was a member of the ODI team in Dhaka.
Joseph had been picked for the T20I leg of the tour too. A Cricket West Indies (CWI) release on Monday said “he has been recommended for consultation with a specialist in England to start the rehabilitation process.”
Joseph had missed both Test matches in India prior to the Bangladesh series due to an undisclosed injury. Since the CPL concluded in September, he has not participated in any cricket matches. He played in five of the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ twelve games there.
Joseph was joined on the sidelines by Jediah Blades, a left-arm seamer. Due to a lower back stress fracture, the 23-year-old, who has participated in nine West Indies white-ball internationals, was unable to play in the Bangladesh tour or the subsequent New Zealand tour. Blades is going home for his rehabilitation.
For the final two ODIs against Bangladesh, West Indies has added left-arm seamer Ramon Simmonds and all-rounder Akeal Hosein to their side. The three-match T20I series, which will wrap up the West Indies’ tour to Bangladesh, was previously planned to include Hosein and Simmonds.
West Indies lost the first ODI to Bangladesh by 74 runs on an unusually dark Dhaka pitch on October 18. Their next two ODIs are on October 21 and 23.
