Virat Kohli’s iconic down-the-ground six off Haris Rauf in the 2022 T20 World Cup was hailed by the ICC as the “shot of the century” and dubbed the ‘shot of an emperor’ by commentators. Now, South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has also expressed his amazement at the shot, calling it “unreal.”
India’s chances of winning were slim before Kohli hit back-to-back sixes, dramatically turning the game around. Reflecting on the moment, Shamsi tweeted, “He had no business hitting THAT BALL over the bowler’s head for 6! Unreal shot!”
In a playful response, Shamsi’s teammate Tristan Stubbs teased him, asking, “Do you practice that shot? I heard you’re an all-rounder.”
Kohli, who announced his T20I retirement after India’s 2024 World Cup win, said, “It’s time for the next generation to take over… amazing players in India will carry the team forward in T20 cricket.”
