Shanaka set to replace Phillips at Gujarat Titans for the rest of the season after the latter’s groin injury.
Shanaka set to play for the Gujarat Titans as an injury replacement for Glenn Phillips this IPL season.
Dasun Shanaka, who previously played for GT in 2023, is paid INR 75 lakh, or roughly USD 87,800.
Just over ten days ago, Phillips suffered a groin injury while fielding against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad. As a result, he was forced to miss the tournament and return home to New Zealand.
Shanaka has only participated in one IPL season thus far, playing three games for GT, scoring just 26 runs, and missing out on bowling opportunities in both seasons.
Prior to his departure for “an important personal matter” on April 3, Kagiso Rabada had been employed by GT. When and whether he will return to India is unclear. Rabada’s replacement has not been announced by GT.
With over half of the league stage now completed, GT is in second place on the points table after winning four of their last six games. Their next match is the afternoon game on Saturday, at home against table-toppers Delhi Capitals (DC).
