Shardul Thakur to lead strong West Zone side in Duleep Trophy that also includes Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan.
Shardul Thakur, an all-rounder for Mumbai and India, has been selected as the West Zone captain for the 2025–26 Duleep Trophy, which begins on August 28.
India’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and middle-order batsmen Sarfaraz Khan and Shreyas Iyer are among the 15-man team. Seven players from Mumbai have been selected for the squad.
Harvik Desai of Saurashtra and Saurabh Nawale of Maharashtra are the wicketkeepers, and Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the fifteen.
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were left out of the West Zone team.
Tilak Verma was selected captain of South Zone’s side earlier in the week. Mohammed Shami is among the players in East Zone’s squad, which will be captained by Ishan Kishan.
Starting with the 2025–2026 domestic season, the six-team Duleep Trophy will revert to the zonal structure, with squads chosen by the zonal selectors. India A, B, C, and D were the four teams chosen by the national selectors for the event last season.
When the Duleep Trophy was played in the zonal format in 2023–2024, South Zone became victorious.
