Shreyas Iyer discharged from Sydney hospital, ‘is now stable and recovering well’.
The BCCI announced in a statement on Saturday morning that Shreyas Iyer “is now stable and recovering well” after being released from the Sydney hospital where he had been admitted due to the internal bleeding and spleen laceration he sustained during India’s third ODI against Australia on October 25.
“The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same,” the statement, quoting secretary Devajit Saikia, said. “He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI medical team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today.”
Iyer was treated by Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney with help from Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India. The BCCI added, “Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for his follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly.”
In the Sydney ODI, Iyer was hurt after making a catch while sprinting backwards from point to dismiss Alex Carey. He grabbed his rib cage and motioned for help right away. For the rest of Australia’s innings, he was removed from the pitch and did not return.
India lost the three-match series 2-1 after losing the opening two matches in Perth and Adelaide, but they won the third ODI by nine wickets. After two games in the T20I series that followed the ODIs, they are currently behind 1-0.
