As he recovers from dengue, Shubman Gill will re-join
the Indian team in Ahmedabad but is still questionable for their World Cup
match against Pakistan on October 14.
After missing India’s World Cup debut against
Australia on October 8, Gill did not accompany the squad to Delhi for their
second match against Afghanistan on Wednesday. He was transferred to a hospital
in Chennai for treatment, but once his health began to recover, he was eventually
released.
“Gill is doing absolutely fine and is set to
leave Chennai for Ahmedabad today,” a BCCI official told PTI. “It is
still not clear whether Gill will have a light training session at Motera on
Thursday. His recovery has been fine but can’t really be sure if he can play
against Pakistan.”
Ishan Kishan and Rohit opened the batting against
Australia in Gill’s place. Despite being down to 2 for 3 in a 200-run chase
after Kishan, Rohit, and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for ducks, India rallied
to complete the chase with six wickets remaining and 52 balls remaining.
With 1230 runs this year at an average of 72.35 and a
strike rate of 105.03, Gill is the player with the most runs in ODIs. He has
scored two hundred and a half-century in his last four ODIs.
