[Saba Sports News] In a significant development within the ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings, the prominent Indian batsman Shubman Gill has ascended to the number one position, displacing the renowned Pakistani batter, Babar Azam. Gill’s ascent to the pinnacle of the rankings is attributed to his stellar performances during the ODI World Cup 2023.
Additionally, Gill has now joined an elite group of only four Indian players, which includes Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, who have achieved the coveted No. 1 ODI batter ranking. Gill’s impressive display in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he has amassed 219 runs in six innings, underscores his outstanding form for Team India. As a consequence of Babar Azam’s six-point decline in the ratings, his prolonged reign at the top has come to a close after more than two years.
At present, Shubman Gill occupies the pinnacle with an impressive 830 rating points, while Babar Azam resides in the second position with 824 points. Furthermore, there has been a notable reshuffling within the top 10 rankings. Quinton de Kock is positioned in third place, while the accomplished Indian batter Virat Kohli has surged three places to secure the fourth spot with 770 points. Kohli’s exceptional performances in the World Cup 2023 have brought him within striking distance of De Kock.
Moreover, Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has made a remarkable leap of 17 places and currently holds the 18th position in the rankings, while Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has ascended three spots to claim the 11th position.
The ICC ODI bowling rankings have also witnessed noteworthy alterations. Following his outstanding displays in recent matches, the Indian paceman Mohammed Siraj has reclaimed his position as the top-ranked bowler. He is closely pursued by South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, who is positioned right behind him.
Additionally, the Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has advanced by three places to secure the fourth position, while Jasprit Bumrah has made a comparable leap to attain the eighth position. Completing the quartet, Mohammed Shami occupies the 10th spot, thus establishing a strong presence of four Indian bowlers within the top 10 rankings.
