Sidra Amin reprimanded for breaching ICC code of conduct.
Sidra Amin, a batter for Pakistan, has received criticism for violating the ICC’s code of conduct during Sunday’s Women’s World Cup match against India in Colombo.
After being removed in the 40th over, Amin struck her bat hard onto the pitch, causing the incident. There was no need for a formal hearing because she acknowledged the wrongdoing and agreed to the punishment suggested by match referee Shandre Fritz.
According to an ICC statement, Amin violated Article 2.2, which deals with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” She received one demerit point for a Level 1 infraction, which was her first offence in a 24-month period.
The accusation was made by third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, fourth umpire Kim Cotton, and on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera. Level 1 offences are punishable by one or two demerit points, a minimum of an official reprimand, and a maximum of 50% of the player’s match fee.
After being bowled out for 159 after pursuing 248 runs, Pakistan lost the match against India. With 81 from 106 balls, Amin led Pakistan in scoring, but it was insufficient. Pakistan will now play Australia on Wednesday after losing their opening two World Cup matches.
