Simon Helmot to be with Renegades WBBL side for 3 more years after winning the side its first WBBL title last season.
Simon Helmot, the coach of the Melbourne Renegades, who helped the team win their first-ever WBBL trophy last season, has signed a three-year extension.
Helmot, who joined Renegades as their WBBL coach four years ago, has extensive expertise in the men’s game in local, international, and franchise cricket. He developed a close relationship with the team and captain Sophie Molineux, and he helped the team win a title last season despite an unimpressive first three seasons.
“Last season was an incredibly special one for our playing group and staff, and I’m thrilled to be continuing as head coach,” Helmot said.
“Winning a title is never easy, which makes being part of this group all the more special. Led brilliantly by our general manager, James Rosengarten, and our captain, Sophie Molineux, achieving what we did was incredibly rewarding.
“We’ve got a great core group of players and people who are passionate about the club, and who are fully invested into achieving more. I’m excited by what we can do next.”
Ahead of Thursday’s WBBL foreign draft, Renegades have re-signed West Indies star all-rounder Hayley Matthews for the upcoming campaign. However, they still need to sign Molineux and fellow Australian star Georgia Wareham, who are both currently uncontracted. The Renegades have lost Victoria duo Ella Hayward and Georgia Prestwidge to their cross-town rivals, but they have acquired Tess Flintoff, a promising all-rounder from the Melbourne Stars.
