Solskjaer set to make shock return as Man United interim as Wilcox considers Norwegian a prime candidate for role.
The director of football, Jason Wilcox, believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a strong prospect to return to Manchester United as interim manager.
As a renowned player, Solskjaer is determined to assume the role at a team where he is still a huge fan favourite. The club and his camp are reportedly in the midst of negotiations. His temporary position would be welcomed by senior players, like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.
It is known that if he is hired for the position, he hopes to make it permanent if his interim appointment is successful. He may or may not be appointed, but if he is and goes on to show himself, history will repeat itself.
There doesn’t seem to be much likelihood that Solskjaer will be hired as the new permanent No. 1 as the executive is mostly working on a temporary appointment.
since of his solid background, Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada consider him a viable candidate since they believe he can improve outcomes and bring back a pleasant vibe. It is thought that Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, a former United midfielder who served as temporary manager in 2021, were approached on Tuesday. A face-to-face meeting with a potential candidate has not yet taken place, but it will happen prior to an appointment.
In addition to leading United to two top-three finishes in 2020 and 2021, Solskjaer also helped the team defeat Villarreal on penalties in the 2021 Europa League final. He was fired in late November while the team was in seventh place due to a terrible run of form the following season. After being fired by Besiktas in August, Solskjý is currently unemployed. After leaving United, that was his first job.
From late November to early December 2021, Carrick filled in for three games, winning two and drawing the other. It is also believed that he is receptive to the role.
Another contender for the position through the remainder of the season is Darren Fletcher, the acting head coach for at least tonight’s match against Burnley.
