
South Africa set to make key decision for Bangladesh series, with CSA keeping a close eye on the current situation in the country.
South Africa’s cricket board along with the SACA are expected to take a final decision next week on if the team will travel to Bangladesh or no.
Bangladesh has been recently rocked by student protests across the country, leading to huge political unrest.
While the series is expected to begin on October 21st, the security reports will confirm South Africa’s travel plans.
With the Women’s T20 World Cup already moved from Bangladesh, BCB hopes that South Africa will tour the country.
South Africa has iterated that while they have received positive information as of now, they will not compromise on player safety.
A decision will be made collectively. CSA will leave it to players to decide whether they are comfortable travelling to Bangladesh.
There are just six Test matches remaining for South Africa in the current World Test Championship [WTC] cycle.
They need to win at least five of their remaining games to have a chance of making it to the Lord’s final the following year.
They are currently seventh in the standings, above Pakistan and West Indies, but below Bangladesh.
This cycle, all six of their series have been reduced to two Tests since the CSA gave the SA20 launch priority.
It is acknowledged that there are currently no plans to play the Bangladesh Tests anywhere else.
South Africa is unlikely to send Gerald Coetzee or Marco Jansen to Bangladesh since both fast bowlers aren’t anticipated to play until November. Next, with a lot of new players in the mix, South Africa will visit the United Arab Emirates for a white-ball series against Afghanistan and Ireland.
