South Africa women rest their pace duo for England T20s as they look to enlarge the talent pool at their disposal.
South Africa women rest Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka or the home T20I series against England. All-rounder Nondumiso Shangase and medium-pacer Eliz-Mari Marx, who shared the top wicket-taking total in the CSA Women’s Pro20 series, have been called up. Following that, Kapp and Khaka will make their comeback for the three-match ODI series.
Additionally absent from South Africa’s T20 team are wicketkeeper-batter Seshnie Naidu and Mieke de Ridder. Both played in the just concluded T20 World Cup. While Naidu is finishing up her final school examinations and getting ready for the Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia in January, De Ridder has been replaced by Faye Tunnicliffe.
All-rounders Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon will return from Australia in time for the opening game on November 24. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt make up the remaining roster. Ayanda Hlubi and Tumi Sekhukhune, bowlers who attended the T20 World Cup but did not participate. They might have a chance at home, where the weather should be more favourable.
Dillon du Preez, the team’s interim coach, stated that he believes they can improve on their performance at the T20 World Cup, where they advanced to a second consecutive final.
“We would like to have the same approach that we did in the last T20 World Cup. Although the next T20 World Cup is in two years’ time. We would still like to grow as a team and continue to work on our T20 playing philosophy. “We decided to give one or two players a chance in the T20I series to prove themselves. And also give us a chance to look at what we have available and skill we need to work on.”
Batsman Lara Goodall and seasoned seamer Masabata Klaas are new additions to South Africa’s 50-over team. Hlubi is expected to make his ODI debut. The games are a part of the Women’s Championship. This serves as a qualifying route for the ODI World Cup in India the following year. With 23 points, South Africa is now in fourth place, five points behind England and Australia.
Australia and England have already qualified because the top five teams plus the host nation, India, will automatically progress to the competition. Even if they are surpassed by Bangladesh or the West Indies, who both have six games remaining, South Africa has advanced as well.
South Africa will announce the team for the one-time Test match in Bloemfontein from December 15–18 at a later time. The ODIs will take place on December 4, 8, and 11. This is after the Twenty20 matches on November 24, 27, and 30.
