South Africa’s board announce huge windfall for 2023/24 season with the board announcing a massive profit of R815 million.
South Africa‘s board have netted a huge profit for the concluded 2023/24 cricket season, following the latest CSA statement.
This financial boost comes after three successive years where the board had incurred substantial losses. The R815 million profit is equivalent to USD 45.6 million.
India’s tour for a multi-format series alongside a successful second season of SA20 were big factors in the increase. Add to that an increase in the broadcast revenues, it was a financially successful year for CSA.
The efficient hosting of the Under19 World Cup in the country was also seen as beneficial.
CSA’s total ICC disbursements for the period were R566 million, (US$ 31.63 million) up from R290 million (US$ 16.2 million) in the previous year.
CSA is expecting to enjoy another strong financial year in 2024-2025 due to hosting India for four T20Is in November. This only goes to underline India’s power in the immediate future of the game.
While CSA have taken steps to move away from Indian dependence, its worth noting that all 6 SA20 teams are Indian affiliates.
The women’s game, which became professional at the national level, is the main benefactor of CSA’s financial recovery. The largest expense for CSA is still maintaining its eight division 1 domestic men’s teams, seven division 2 domestic men’s teams, and six regional women’s teams.
Overall, CSA reported strong performance in everything from the national teams. The men reached the semi-final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The women’s team beat Australia in an ODI and a T20I for the first time in their history.
The KFC mini-cricket programme reported a 20% increase in participation. The rate of progression of those players to provincial and national teams is 15%.
