Spurs and West Ham agree £54.5m deal to buy Kudus as Ghana attacker will sign six-year deal subject to medical.
Spurs and West Ham reach an agreement to sign Ghana attacker Mohammed Kudus.
Kudus will sign a six-year contract and is scheduled to have a physical on Thursday. Since Scott Parker left West Ham for Spurs in 2011, the Ghanaian forward will be the first player to do so.
Due to their need to restructure their team without risking a violation of the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability rules, West Ham decided to trade Kudus to their London rivals. West Ham must sell to purchase, according to sources at the London Stadium. They are looking for a striker, a left centre-back, a left wing-back, a goalkeeper, and at least two midfielders.
Kudus has an £85m release clause valid for Premier League sides for the first 10 days of July but West Ham were always likely to accept a lower amount. He has drawn a lot of interest and was considered the club’s most marketable commodity. Spurs, who have put up the most effort to get the 24-year-old, had their £50 million offer turned down last week. The money will be disbursed over a period of three years.
Given that Kudus plays best on the right, where the captain, Jarrod Bowen, also plays, West Ham is content to let him go. According to Graham Potter, Kudus lacks the skills necessary to play a key part in the Premier League.
After spending £37 million to join West Ham from Ajax two years prior, Kudus made an impression, although he struggled the previous season. He scored four goals throughout all competitions and had a falling out with Potter’s predecessor, Julen Lopetegui. In a 4-1 loss to Spurs last October, he was sent off with a hefty suspension.
Tottenham is still pursuing him despite his expulsion. As Spurs attempt to rebuild after Ange Postecoglou was replaced with the Dane, Kudus’ arrival will increase Thomas Frank’s options in the final third.
