[Saba Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs are fully supportive of their prized rookie, Victor Wembanyama.
During a recent interview at training camp, Spurs swingman Keldon Johnson made it clear that any opponent trying to challenge or bully Wembanyama this season would face consequences.
Johnson stated, ‘There will definitely be people trying to test him this year, attempting to intimidate him. We’ve got his back. I’m on the court not only to play but to ensure my teammates’ safety.
If I sense any situation where they’re targeting him, I’ll step in. It’s about being there for my teammates who I compete with every day. I’m 100 percent behind [Wembanyama], ready to fight for him, and I know my teammates share the same sentiment.’
Wembanyama, a 19-year-old sensation, is drawing comparisons to NBA greats like LeBron James and is highly anticipated to become an all-time great himself. However, given his lack of NBA experience and his slender 209-pound frame, opponents may try to target him in his rookie season.
Nevertheless, Wembanyama can find comfort in knowing that his teammates are prepared to defend him at a moment’s notice. Additionally, he has worked hard during the offseason to improve his own defensive skills.
