[Saba Sports News] Steve Kerr seems to believe that Draymond Green went a bit too far with his recent comments. The Golden State Warriors’ standout, Green, created some controversy this week by praising the team’s improved chemistry this season while criticizing the “negative atmosphere” they had last season. These remarks could easily be interpreted as a dig at former Warriors guard Jordan Poole, now with the Washington Wizards.
During an appearance on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” show on Thursday, Warriors head coach Kerr disagreed with the notion that Poole should bear the blame for last year’s struggles. Kerr, without mentioning Green by name, expressed, “Firstly, I believe it’s unjust to solely point fingers at Jordan. That’s unfair. Last year was tumultuous for various reasons, and Jordan made significant contributions while he was here. He played a pivotal role in our championship win.”
Kerr also expressed his displeasure with any criticism directed at Poole, emphasizing that last season’s issues were multifaceted, and the blame should be shared among the team.
It was expected that Kerr would take a diplomatic approach when discussing his former player, Poole. Poole had developed from a raw prospect into a reliable 20-points-per-game scorer for the Warriors and played a crucial role in their 2022 championship victory. Kerr’s perspective appears to be objective, especially considering the strained relationship between Green and Poole, marked by an incident where Green famously punched him during practice.
Kerr has an intimate understanding of Green, having coached him for a decade with the Warriors. He has witnessed both Green’s positive contributions, such as his versatile on-court skills and emotional leadership that helped secure four titles, and the negative aspects, including fractured relationships with Poole and other former teammates.
