Stuart MacGill, a former Australian Test bowler, has
been charged with providing a commercial amount of cocaine that resulted in his
alleged kidnapping.
The alleged kidnapping occurred in April 2021 on
Sydney’s lower north shore, and six men have been prosecuted.
After the incident was reported to police, an
investigation into a suspected drug supply operation was started, and on
Friday, police said that MacGill, 52, had been detained on Tuesday in
Chatswood.
He faces a single count of intentionally taking part
in the distribution of an unlawful substance in a substantial commercial
amount.
After the claimed kidnapping, MacGill told authorities
that he was repeatedly punched in the head during the encounter, resulting in a
concussion.
He claimed that at Cremorne on Sydney’s north shore,
he was coerced into a car and driven to Bringelly in the south of Sydney.
In 2021, MacGill claimed he had done nothing illegal
while speaking to Nine’s A Current Affair, denying any role in the kidnapping.
On the drug charge, the former spinner was given a
severe conditional bail and required to give up his passport.
On October 26, he is scheduled to appear in Manly
Local Court.
