Sundar could be India’s new No.1 All-rounder as he has shown he has what it takes to be an elite allrounder.
Washington Sundar had innings of 27 off 90, 0 off 4, 23 off 76, 12* off 7, and 42 off 103 in this series before to scoring his first Test century to help India salvage the Old Trafford Test. Alongside the numbers 2 for 107, 4 for 22, 0 for 21, 1 for 28, and 0 for 73 should be used.
There is nothing noteworthy other from the Lord’s four-for, but if you take the time to review the series’ shots and balls for a highlight video, Washington will be in it.
Prior to the dramatically drifting offbreak that caught Ben Stokes leg before wicket at Edgbaston, Washington had once again used his Gabba pull, but with greater force, against Josh Tongue. Additionally, he had been bowled by Joe Root’s spectacular offbreak. Then there came Root’s beautiful inside-out six into Lord’s biggest pocket. Not much more than a chip, but it continued.
Even Washington’s father has been compared to the father of another batter who was very aesthetically beautiful, Kumar Sangakkara, because of his high expectations for his son.
Washington has encountered difficulties as a result of the IPL’s Impact Player rule, which deters teams from developing all-round players. In the three years of the Impact Player period, Washington has only played 15 games after becoming a regular; in the three years prior, he played 30.
A player’s perception may suffer from being out of sight, but fortunately not in the selectors’ eyes. Perhaps it has also aided Washington’s bowling development. For instance, no spinner has been able to drift the ball as much as he has in this series, averaging 2.543 degrees, while Liam Dawson, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shoaib Bashir have all hovered around 1.5 degrees.
You can understand why the decision-makers have been so interested in Washington when you consider his batting abilities. He never seemed to give England a chance at all during his attempt to draw the fourth Test. Washington shown his ability to bat in a variety of ways as early as his debut Test match, the famous Gabba victory. He could counterattack in a chase or remain calm and slow when facing difficulties in the first innings.
At this point in his career, Washington is still unsure of his ideal job. He might bowl occasionally outside of Asia as a speciality batter. He might bat in Asia’s lower middle order as a frontline spinner. He possesses the numbers of an outstanding all-rounder even at this stage.
