[Saba Sports News] Sunil Gavaskar, the esteemed former captain of the Indian cricket team, recently visited Sachin Railway Station in Surat, Gujarat. This visit triggered a wave of nostalgia and garnered reactions from fans and Sachin Tendulkar himself. Gavaskar playfully acknowledged the coincidence of the station’s name with that of his beloved cricketer and personal hero, Tendulkar, sharing an excited photo on Instagram from the location.
In his Instagram post, Gavaskar humorously commented on the station’s name, initially believed by many to honor the cricket legend. However, he clarified that the station’s name actually comes from the village of Sachin in Surat. He humorously lauded the ‘foresight’ of those who named the station, aligning it with the fame of his favorite cricketer and person.
“What foresight of those in the last century to name a railway station near Surat after one of the all-time greats of our game and my favourite cricketer but more importantly my favourite person,” Gavaskar captioned the post.
Contrary to popular belief, Sachin Railway Station’s name is derived from the village it’s located in, not from Tendulkar. The village itself is a key industrial hub, significantly contributing to the region’s development. Gavaskar’s visit also brought back memories of his own illustrious cricket career, being the first to score over 10,000 runs in Test matches.
Gavaskar’s impact on cricket goes beyond his on-field achievements, influencing the sport profoundly. The connection between him and Tendulkar, who regretted never playing alongside Gavaskar, highlights the deep bond between these cricket legends. Both Gavaskar, a part of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, and Tendulkar, who achieved the same in 2011, embody the lasting heritage of Indian cricket.
