The first day of the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025 has seen Australia and South Africa deliver commanding performances, which would set the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive phase of the tournament.
Australia gave a very good statement in their opener against Scotland, as they cruised to a comprehensive victory. Batting first, Australia posted a daunting total, powered by solid contributions from their top order. Despite Scotland’s best efforts, their batting could not match the required pace, and they were restricted to a total well below Australia’s target. Australia’s all-round team performance underlined their reputation as one of the tournament’s most dominant sides.
South Africa continued their impressive run in the tournament by dominating the game against Ireland. Ireland batted first and could only muster a modest total of 97 runs, courtesy of South Africa’s superb bowling effort. The best bowler for South Africa was Monalisa Legodi, who took four wickets for just four runs as she decimated the Irish batting order. South Africa chased down the target with a lot of ease and went on to win by seven wickets to make themselves a team to watch.
New Zealand too made an excellent impact on day one of the Super Six stage, notching a close but crucial 18-run victory over the United States. Although New Zealand faced a modest target of 98, their bowlers, led by Rishika Jaswal and Kate Irwin, were clinical in holding USA to a meager 79 runs and ensuring the win for themselves, which kept the hope of further progress alive for New Zealand.
On the other side of things, the match between England and Nigeria was abandoned by weather conditions and the teams were awarded a share of points. This played a twist in the Super Six stage as both teams managed to acquire 3 points into their bags as they wait to continue their remaining matches.
With these results, the Super Six standings are heating up. South Africa leads Group 2 with a perfect record, while Australia remains unbeaten in Group 1. The Super Six stage promises even more thrilling encounters as teams battle for spots in the semi-finals, with every match now carrying immense importance. Fans can expect the intensity to only rise as the tournament progresses.
