[Saba Sports News] The BCCI selectors have picked Suryakumar Yadav as India’s captain for the upcoming T20I series versus Australia.
As per a Cricbuzz report, Suryakumar will lead the team in the Australia T20Is, while the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman will take over the head coach’s role.
Rahul Dravid’s contract as the India head coach expired post the ODI World Cup 2023 and is yet to be seen if he will get an extension or if he is willing to continue.
Moreover, the report also added that the selectors met on Monday to form the team and discussed Shreyas Iyer as a possible option to be given the charge of the side in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who is yet to recover from the ankle injury. However, they disbanded the idea, considering Iyer’s workload.
It is being reported that most members of the squad that toured Ireland in August have been selected, except for Jasprit Bumrah, who is given the rest.
An official announcement of the squad is expected on Tuesday.
Notably, the five-match T20I series between India and Australia will start on November 23 in Visakhapatnam.
