Tahir leads Guyana to huge victory over Central Districts yo bounce back from their loss against Rangpur Riders.
Tahir, Pretorius, Wiese give Guyana Amazon Warriors massive win.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Central Districts by a commanding 66-run margin in Providence to start the Global Super League 2025. With two losses in two games, Central Districts are at the bottom of the points table, while Warriors are now at the top, at least temporarily.
The Warriors’ bowlers, David Wiese, Dwaine Pretorius, and Imran Tahir, were the main attraction. Central Districts were knocked out for a meagre 92 in 14.2 overs while chasing 159, with Tahir taking 4 for 23, Pretorius 3 for 18, and Wiese 2 for 13.
Prior to this, Central Districts chose to field after winning the toss. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jewel Andrew put on 84 runs off 63 balls for the third wicket, however they cheaply got rid of Moeen Ali and Johnson Charles. In the 15th over, Andrew was dismissed for 45 off 29, and in the following over, Gurbaz was dismissed for 58 off 47. Warriors managed just 28 runs in the final four overs due to the inability of the incoming batsmen to step up.
However, Central Districts never began their pursuit. Dane Cleaver was dismissed by Pretorius in the opening over, and the scoreboard stood at 23 for 4 at the conclusion of the powerplay. From then, there was no way out.
Tahir’s two wickets in the thirteenth over severely harmed them. Will Young, who opened the innings with a top score of 26 off 29 balls, was removed by Wiese two overs later to end the innings.
