Tamil Nadu name Varun Chakravarthy as SMAT skipper, marking what will be his first captaincy stint at any level.
Varun Chakravarthy named Tamil Nadu captain for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Tamil Nadu’s captain for the 2025–26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which starts on November 26, is India spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The vice captain will be Narayan Jagadeesan.
With five wickets in three finished games, Varun was a valuable contributor to India’s recent T20I series victory in Australia. This will be his first time serving as a captain at any level. He was appointed ahead of R Sai Kishore and Jagadeesan, both of whom had previous captaincy experience, and took M Shahrukh Khan’s place.
T Natarajan, an Indian left-arm seamer, and Gurjapneet Singh, another left-arm seamer, are both in the team. Sai Kishore and M Siddharth, two additional left-armers, will spearhead the spin attack.
After two defeats and two draws in four games, Tamil Nadu is now ranked sixth in their group in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
They are in Elite Group D with Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Saurashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In Ahmedabad, they will begin their assault against Rajasthan.
