Tamim Iqbal takes his name back from BCB President elections, says that he cannot be a part of this facade.
Tamim withdraws from BCB elections: ‘I cannot be a part of this’.
16 candidates have decided not to run in the BCB elections, including Tamim Iqbal. Following the withdrawals, 27 candidates will run for the 17 director positions that remain, the board’s election panel said on Wednesday.
Two will be government representatives, and 23 will be elected to the board of directors in the BCB elections. A board president is chosen by these 25 directors. Since Tamim is no longer running, Aminul Islam, the current president of the BCB, has a clear route to remain in office beyond October 6.
Due to the lack of competition in their respective subcategories, six directors have already been appointed board directors. These include Khulna (Abdur Razzak and Julfikar Ali Khan), Sylhet (Rahat Shams), Barishal (Shakhawat Hossain), and Chattogram (Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury and Asif Akbar).
To decide who becomes a board director, three candidates each stay in the Dhaka, Rangpur, and Rajshahi regions. The third group, which includes, among others, educational institutions and retired cricket players, will also have a competition. A director representing Jahangirnagar University will be chosen from among former captain Khaled Mashud and Debabrata Paul.
“At least 14 or 15 of us have withdrawn our nominations today,” Tamim said on Wednesday. “The reason for this withdrawal is very clear. From the very beginning, I have been saying one thing, and you are all clear about it now–about which direction this election is going or how it is being conducted. Whatever seems right at any moment, whatever they want to do, is being done. This is not really an election. This is not an election, and this doesn’t suit cricket in any way.
“A lot has been said at different times, but at the end of the day, I feel that we cannot be a part of this. I always say one thing: cricket, Bangladesh cricket does not deserve this, and the cricket fans of Bangladesh do not deserve this either.”
