[Saba Sports News] Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal is set to make his competitive cricket comeback in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League.
This move means he will miss both the two-match Test series against New Zealand and the subsequent white-ball series there. Tamim announced this decision during a media briefing at his home following discussions with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan about his international cricket future.
Tamim’s career has been tumultuous recently, including a temporary retirement, stepping down as captain, and rejecting a middle-order role. He openly discussed these issues with reporters but refrained from taking questions. His decision to skip the World Cup, citing dissatisfaction with BCB’s internal politics, was a significant step in this period.
The cricketer emphasized the importance of clarity in his career decisions and apologized for the timing of his announcement, just before a Test match. He indicated that a clearer picture of his future plans would emerge post-BPL, respecting the BCB’s decision to defer discussions until January, post-national parliamentary elections.
BCB chief Nazmul Hasan, busy with upcoming elections, preferred to delay any decision on Tamim’s future until a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding his World Cup absence. Hasan, not seeking re-election as BCB President, expressed his commitment to setting the right direction for the team before his term ends, even if it requires tough decisions.
He plans to gather more information during the BPL to make an informed decision about Tamim’s future.
