Mayank Yadav, a fast bowler, has got his first call-up for India. His blistering spells of speed, reaching above 150 km/h lit up the 2024 IPL. He has been included in the team for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh.
Mayank’s electric speeds during the early part of IPL 2024 created a buzz around him. He won 2 Player of the Match awards in the 4 games he played. He was soon ruled out of the IPL with a side injury. While he recovered from that injury, he picked up a separate injury while bowling in the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who last played a T20I in 2021, has been recalled. This follows a resurgent season with the ball for KKR, picking 21 wickets in the tournament.
For the three Twenty20 Internationals, which are scheduled to take place between the current Test series against Bangladesh and the Test series against New Zealand beginning on October 16, India has selected a very young group of fifteen players. Players who were included in India’s most recent Twenty20 international assignment in Sri Lanka, including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Mohammed Siraj, have been rested due to their workload as members of the Test team.
Many youthful faces now have more room as a result of this. After missing the Sri Lanka tour, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana—all members of the squad for the July tour to Zimbabwe—are back. Sanju Samson and Jitesh will battle it out for the position of wicketkeeper.
Suryakumar Yadav, the current T20I captain, will lead the team; no vice captain has been appointed. Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh are among the other regular members.
The three T20Is will be played in Gwalior, Delhi and Hyderabad on October 6, 9 and 12 respectively.
