[Saba Sports News] In a significant development for Cricket South Africa, ODI skipper Temba Bavuma will miss the two upcoming World Cup warm-up matches.
South Africa is set to play Afghanistan on September 29 and New Zealand on October 2 before the World Cup begins. Bavuma had to return home due to personal reasons, and while his absence may affect the team, it is uncertain whether he will return for the World Cup itself.
Aiden Markram will lead South Africa in Bavuma’s absence, as confirmed by Cricket South Africa on Twitter.
South Africa enters the World Cup with confidence after defeating Australia in a five-match ODI series, securing three consecutive victories after losing the first two games. After the warm-up matches, South Africa will face Sri Lanka on October 7 in their World Cup opener at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
With their recent success, the team hopes for a strong start to the tournament, although Bavuma’s absence adds an element of uncertainty.
