[Saba Sports News] The World Cup 2023 has kicked off with England facing New Zealand in the opening match. Australian captain Pat Cummins and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson presented a huge World Cup T-shirt to The Great Khali, which went viral on social media.
The towering wrestling legend, Dalip Singh Rana (Khali), who stands at 7’1″, became the “Biggest Cricket Fan” at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He interacted with all ten World Cup captains, including Rohit Sharma.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a special captains’ day show, where these cricket icons had lively discussions with Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan.
The 2023 World Cup is significant as India is hosting it entirely for the first time since its inception. It’s also the first time since 1979 that a single nation hosts the ODI World Cup. In the opening match, New Zealand chose to bowl first against defending champions England.
Notably, England was missing Ben Stokes due to a hip injury, while New Zealand had to omit key players like Kane Williamson, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson due to injuries.
The tournament features 48 thrilling matches across ten renowned cricket venues, with the final set for November 19 at Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium.
