[Saba Sports News] Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir remembered the mind-blowing innings of India’s Virat Kohli that came at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Kohli, who arguably arguably played the best T20 knock of his life, scored an unbeaten 82 runs off 53 balls with a strike rate of 154.72 against Pakistan. The innings arrived on the big stage of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup in the month of October last year. Kohli’s knock guided India to victory in a closely-contested match, which at one stage looked Pakistan’s to lose.
Amir, who was watching the match with his former teammate Wahab Riaz, revealed that he was optimistic about India’s win even when Pakistan were ahead in the game because Kohli was still batting.
“Wahab Riaz was sitting beside me. When 48 runs were needed off 3 overs, I told Riaz ‘India match haara nahi hai’ (India hasn’t lost the game yet). I told him ‘Till the time Virat is there, India hasn’t lost the match’. I guaranteed him that,” Amir was quoted as saying by Times of India.
Furthermore, Amir praised Kohli and acknowledged that only he could have played playing that sort of knock.
“No batter in the world could play that miraculous knock, only Virat could. Virat is the only player who could take the game from that particular situation and turn it around, and he did. Riaz gave me a high-five after that match. The word pressure is not there in Virat’s cricketing dictionary,” Amir added.
He reckoned the 34-year-old would be tough to handle for all the teams in upcoming ODI World Cup as he is running in solid form.
“If you ask Virat, he will surely say that that knock vs Pakistan was the best innings of his life. Virat will be a dangerman for every team in the World Cup. He is in top and red-hot form. His confidence is at another level at the moment.”
