[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan, who was a member of the Inaugural 2007 ICC Twenty20 World Cup-winning Team, took to social media to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the historic triumph.
On this day in 2007, MS Dhoni-led India defeated Pakistan in the World T20 2007 final by five runs. India elected to bat first and set a target of 158 runs for Pakistan. Gautam Gambhir was the top scorer for India, scoring 75 runs off 54 balls. While chasing, Pakistan got all-out for 152 runs in 19.3 overs.
Irfan Pathan was named the Player of the Match for his tournament-winning spell of 4-0-16-3. He dismissed the then-Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, and Yasir Arafat.
Pathan recalled the day and shared the memory by posting the pics on his ‘X” handle.
Pathan in the caption of his tweet wrote, “This trophy wouldn’t have been possible without this team… picture courtesy: world champion @iamyusufpathan!!! #worldchampion.”
The 38-year-old left-arm pacer served India in 24 T20Is and picked up 28 wickets. Pathan also played 29 Tests and 120 ODIs, clinching 100 and 173 wickets respectively.
