Tim Paine to coach Australia A for three series this year with Griffith and Franklin to stand-in for absent Vettori.
After being named Australia A coach for three series in the second part of this year, Tim Paine, a former captain of Australia and current coach of the Adelaide Strikers, continues his ascent up the coaching ranks.
In addition to coaching the Strikers, Paine has been brought on as a consultant to advise the Australia women’s squad and work throughout the Australia A men’s series. In July, he will captain Australia A in two four-day games against Sri Lanka A in Darwin and three 50-over matches.
In addition, he will coach in a one-time four-day match against the England Lions, which is probably going to happen in late October or early November, and he will lead an Australia A team on a tour of India in September and October for white and red-ball matches.
In recent years, Paine has served as an assistant coach for Australia A and other development teams. He was an assistant to Adam Voges, who coached the Perth Scorchers and Western Australia when Australia A defeated New Zealand in a home multi-format series in 2023. Last season, when Australia A hosted India A, Paine also served as an assistant coach to Lachlan Stevens, CA’s national development coach.
Paine will coach Australia A against Sri Lanka A after Stevens left CA. He will be assisted by Adam Griffith, the new national pace bowling coach, Scott Prestwidge, the assistant coach for the Australian women’s squad, and Trent Keep, the Pathway and Development coach for Northern Territory Cricket.
Daniel Vettori is expected to miss the entire tour due to family matters, therefore Griffith has been despatched to the Caribbean to fill in as Australia’s bowling coach for the first two Test matches against the West Indies. Former New Zealand left-arm seamer James Franklin will make his debut appearance in Australia’s coaching staff for the third Test and the ensuing five Twenty20 Internationals, while Griffith will return to Australia for the A series.
After serving as a consultant coach for Australia’s white-ball series against Pakistan last summer, former wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade will also be joining Australia’s coaching staff as an assistant for the T20Is in the Caribbean.
