Timor-Leste duo make history in International Cricket as Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail are first father-son duo to play together.
Suhail Sattar, 50, and Yahya Suhail, 17, of Timor-Leste, are the first father-son team to participate in an international game. On November 6, they accomplished the rare accomplishment of batting together in Timor-Leste’s first international match against the hosts, Indonesia, in Bali.
However, Yahya and Sattar are not the first parents and kids to participate in an international game together. Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju, a mother-daughter pair, played six Twenty20 Internationals together for the Switzerland women’s team this year.
In domestic cricket, father-son pairs have also been known to play both against and alongside one another. Together, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine participated in eleven first-class matches for Guyana. In March 2014, Shivnarine even captained his son in a match at Providence Stadium against Windward Islands.
More recently, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan faced his son Hassan Eisakhil in the 2025 Shpageeza Cricket League final.
Timor-Leste has had a difficult start to international cricket, losing all three of their matches by ten wickets.
