Trabzonspor on the verge of signing Andre Onana from Manchester United after verbal agreement between both clubs.
Manchester United reach verbal agreement with Trabzonspor for André Onana loan deal.
André Onana is reportedly keen to finalising the deal before Turkey’s transfer window ends on Friday, and Manchester United and Trabzonspor have verbally agreed to take him on loan.
This season, Altay Bayindir has displaced the Cameroonian. Onana was responsible for both goals in the 2-2 draw in regular time, and he has only started United’s Carabao Cup 12-11 penalty shootout loss at Grimsby.
Before Onana makes a final decision, the conditions of the agreement with Trabzonspor are still being worked out.
To increase their alternatives, United paid €21 million (£18 million) to Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens on the day of the transfer deadline. The four goalkeepers on head coach Ruben Amorim’s squad are Lammens, Onana, Bayindir, and Tom Heaton.
However, Amorim had felt at ease with having four keepers because Onana was anticipated to be a member of Cameroon’s roster for the African Cup of Nations and would be absent for up to six weeks starting in mid-December. Trabzonspor changed his mind after showing interest in the 29-year-old.
However, United may be vulnerable if Onana completes the loan transfer. Heaton, 39, last played in the league for Aston Villa in January 2020, while Bayindir has only made seven Premier League outings and has shown a tendency to make mistakes. Lammens, 23, has never participated in an English football game.
On signing, the Belgian said: “I think if you want to be a good goalkeeper, you have to be a rock behind the defence. They have to trust you and count on you in difficult moments. That is something I take pride in. One of the best attributes you can have as a goalkeeper is staying calm under pressure, in any circumstances, even if you make a mistake or something. You just move on and try to give your best to the team.”
